A kitty for Liam

There is a new cat at the farm. We found him in the barn about a week ago and have since invited him into the house on a part time basis. We have named him Mr. Blue and we think he is about 3-4 months old as he still loves to play and has not quite grown into his paws yet. He spent the day yesterday sleeping at Liam's feet and begging for bacon. I think he will be a wonderful addition to our family.

New chicks

It has been about a week now and our new Americaunas are starting to settle in. We found a trio, two hens and a youngh rooster. They are beautiful little things, the hens are silver and black and the Roo is silver and brown. They are still quite small, only about 12 weeks, so we still have time to get them used to people. If everything goes well we should be exspecting wounderful blue/green eggs in about two and a half months.

Un-toy of the week

This weeks UN-toy is an empty wipes container! Liam's has spent a good amount of time playing with this white container while on the floor. I think its funny how they make all kinds of baby toys and he would be just as happy playing with whatever he can find on the floor. Thinking back to my childhood i do remember playing with very simple things the most, i turned my blocks and a set of bongos into everything from doll furnished to stilts. I love that he is so curious and hope that i can help him hold onto that as long as possible.

There off the hook.

I just finished these little boots for Liam. They have a leather bottom and crocheted wool top. I fell in love with a pair very similar at a baby boutique, but they wanted $50 for them. I thought to myself " i can make those". i got the leather at a liquidation store for 23 cents and the wool for $7. The pattern i used is free from Lion Brand but instead of crocheting the soul i cut out a piece of leather in the shape of a soul, punched holes around the outside and started crocheting from the "sides". I really like the way they turned out. I am going to make another pair with sheepskin, but the next size up for the summer.

We are here! We are here! We are here!

The final box is moved and the crowds of people have left, and we are here. Today is the first morning alone on are farm, and what a wonderful morning it has been so far. The sun comes up in our new bedroom and dances across the yellow walls to the sounds of black birds and chickadees singing outside; its a great way to wake up. My tasks for the day includes unpacking, checking on the girls to see if they like there new nesting boxes (Matthew built them last night) and trying to find my wool and hooks. I'm also going to try to get outside because its supposed to go up to 12 digress C today, which will hopeful be the first spring day after a long but not very snowy winter.
We are a little further behind then I'd like to be on planing our garden but it can't be helped. I have found a couple of Ontario seed company's that look great thanks to Dawn at Little City Farm. In the next few days i have to sit down and make a list of the needs we would like and send it away so we can hopeful get what we want. I will post the list once i have it all on paper.

To bed or not to bed

After getting up to help get Matt off to work this mornings daily choice to go back to bed with Liam or stay up and get packing done was a hard one. Its too tempting to crawl back into back for early morning cuddles, even though i know i have a lot of packing to do and the time when both of my hands are free is limited. Going back to bed inevitably leads to Liam waking, but that only means we can nurse and read together, which is hardly a drawback. I feel like its time missed; he's growing so fast and i want to saver every last minute with him. On this morning i will do laundry and sweep the kitchen while he sleeps, two jobs he less then enjoys being hauled around for. I'll wait to hear the faint stirrings on the baby monitor so i can rush in and claim my sticky baby kisses.

Burning the log at both ends

As part of the deal with the house we have to put in a new wood stove for the insurance. This is the one we picked because it was a working cook top on it, plus it has a cast iron shell.
It will be going in just before we move in on the 5th of march. I can't wait to start the first fire. Matt and I have been craving a wood stove since we visited my parents at Yule: the soft warm heat, the glow of the fire and the faint smell of wood smoke in the morning as we go out to let the girls (chickens) out for there morning pecking.
